Extending a Hand This Suicide Prevention Month

The words "Extending a Hand for Suicide Prevention Month" on a tan background

Suicide Prevention Month coincides with back-to-school, providing an unsettling reminder of how suicide has become a leading cause of death for ages 10-24 and that 16 percent of adolescents have considered suicide.

At GoGuardian, we strongly believe that the more parents and schools are aware of how prevalent student suicide is among youth, the better we can protect them. Knowing that de-stigmatizing depression and suicide is key to addressing the issue, we wanted to provide our community of teachers, administrators, and parents with an infographic that highlights those at-a-glance figures and a compilation of the warning signs and helpful tips to extend a hand for someone in need. Feel free to view, download, and share with your own network and community during September and help elevate the importance of this month.

If you or someone you know is suicidal, get help immediately via 911, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255, or text TALK to 741741 to text with a trained crisis counselor from the Crisis Text Line for free, 24/7.
