How To Force Install Apps and Extensions: Part I

Force-installing apps and extensions to Users within your Organization is important for a few reasons--the most important of which is that students will not be able to remove these Apps & Extensions from their device. There are two different ways to Force-Install your apps, please click here for the second part.

  1. Login to your Admin console at
  2. Within the Admin console, click on “Device management”1_1.png
  3. Within Device management, click the “Chrome management” link1-3.png
  4. Within Chrome management, click on “User Settings”1-4.png
  5. It is important to note that you are changing the User Settings for the Organizational Unit you have selected on the left hand side, underneath where it says “Organizations”. If you’d like to Force-install to your entire Organization, select the Parent OU, if you’d instead like to force-install to one specific sub organization, then please ensure that it is selected. For example:1-5.png
  6. Navigate to the “Apps and Extensions” header, by scrolling through your page, and locate the Force-Installed Apps and Extensions sub header.
  7. Click on the “Manage force-installed apps” link1-7.png
  8. Select the way you’d like to add your app. In this example, we’re using the Chrome Web Store.1-8.png
  9. Search for the App or Extension you’d like to add. You are free to add as many Apps and Extensions in this step as you’d like and select the add link for each one.1-9.png
  10. Press save. 1-10.png
